This course will introduce students to the dynamics of education politics, including the examination of the negotiationsthat result in the definitional, institutional, and curricular direction of education. It will focus on key elements of political analysis, including central issues to education decision-makers, the decision-making process, and outcomes of those decisions, emphasizing the development of pertinent policy. Such a focus will allow students to analyze the structures a certain forum (e.g., school board meeting) or a particular group (e.g., Manitoba Teachers Society) for its political ambiance, both generally, with reference to theory and approach, and particularly, with reference to specific practices.
