Add to My Courses

This course examines the history of education in Winnipeg's North End and broader inner city from the early 20th century to today. Particular attention is paid to those who have come to be identified as the "Other": eastern European immigrants early in the 20th century; Indigenous people and newcomers today. The relationship between poverty and educational outcomes is closely examined. Also emphasized are innovative educational strategies that have emerged in the inner city and that have been demonstrated to work well in improving educational outcomes. Restrictions: Students may not hold credit for this course and EDUC-4405.
