The problems of defining and explaining crime and deviant behaviour are considered as well as an analysis of the major theoretical trends in the field. The course is designed to introduce students to the intellectual history and development of major theories of crime and deviance and to provide those who wish to pursue their interest with the analytical tools required in the advanced courses in the field of criminology.
